Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two different record labels signing her and then dropping her before any material was released. Capitol Records, however, issued Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007, which received modest success with the track that was its title. I Kissed a Girl, a confident ode to her sexual curiosity that is set to a gritty electronic-pop beat, gained a greater sensation a couple of months later. I Kissed a Girls was an immediate hit, however it soon sparked controversy. Critics argued that it encouraged sexual relationships between gay and straight men, while others said the scenario which was depicted on the album was more appealing to fantasies of males. I Kissed a Girl's combination of sensuality, polished music and a catchy chorus helped it become a top-ten hit across a range of countries. This led to The album, The One of the Boys (2007) being a big success. The sharp, bouncey second track was well-loved. The album that Perry wrote in large part sold over three million copies.
